The PRS CE 24 was introduced all the way back in 1988 as a way of delivering the traditional bolt-on snap on a PRS guitar. The current model adheres to the original formula, but boasts a bunch of newly-updated features including flexible 85/15 pickups and handy locking tuners.
Bolt-On Design
From the front, the CE 24 looks just like any other Core PRS guitar. A stunning Figured Maple top, beautiful bird inlays and well-machined hardware - all of the features you would expect on a flagship Custom 24 model.
But around the back of the instrument, you can see quite a few changes that make this a completely different tone machine. It still has the curved Mahogany body that PRS guitars are well-known for, but the neck is made out of Maple instead of the more typical Mahogany. This choice of material works incredibly well with the bolt-on design, adding brightness and snappy immediacy to notes.
Pure Playability
Part of what made PRS' original CE 24 guitars so popular was how easy they were to play. More stripped back, these instruments offered great playability for the price. And this guitar follows in the same way with a 'Pattern Thin' neck that lets your hands flow with ease across the smooth Rosewood fingerboard.
The highly-adjustable PRS tremolo also allows you to set the guitar up exactly how you like, while offering a wonderfully smooth action. In conjunction with the PRS 'Low Mass' locking tuners, you can expect rock-solid tuning stability too.
85/15 Pickups
Unlike some of the other PRS year-based pickup designs, the 85/15 humbuckers are based on the pickups that Paul Reed Smith would have ideally had back when he started the company back in 1985.
They are highly-versatile, especially in the CE 24 where they gain extra high-end bite that works perfectly for hard rock and metal styles. That is not all that they are limited to though, as these vintage-voiced pickups roll back wonderfully for blues and rock players.
